Men’s Tennis to Face Messiah in First Round of NCAA Tournament

NCAA Tournament Bracket

HUNTINGDON, PA- The Juniata men's tennis team has found out their opponent for the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles will face Messiah on the campus of Washington and Lee in Lexington, VA on either Thursday or Friday.

Juniata received the NCAA's automatic bid by virtue of winning the Landmark Conference title with a 5-3 win over Goucher. It is the program's first conference title. The Eagles are 16-4 overall and finished a perfect 8-0 in the Landmark. They have won 15 straight matches.

The Falcons won the Commonwealth Conference by defeating Stevenson 5-1 for its second straight conference crown. Messiah is 9-6 on the year and finished 5-0 in the Commonwealth.

The two teams are already familiar with each other having playing in Grantham on March 24. The Eagles won the match by the score of 8-1. Juniata and Messiah have played each other the last three seasons with JC winning all of those matches.

The winner advances to the second round to play Emory. The #4 Eagles knocked off #5 Washington-St. Louis 5-4 in the University Athletic Association championship back on April 26. It's their first conference title since 2012 and 24th overall.
