Men’s Tennis Secures #1 Seed in Landmark With Convincing Victory over Goucher

HUNTINGDON, PA- It was a battle of the top two teams in the Landmark in men's tennis on Saturday afternoon at Raffensberger Court. In the end, Juniata came out on top with a 7-2 victory over the Goucher.

 

The Eagles are 7-0 in the conference and 11-4 overall. They will be the #1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Tournament on April 28. Goucher drops to 6-1 and 12-5.

 

Juniata swept doubles play. Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) and Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) cruised at third doubles over the pair of Britton Shortle and Josh Goldberg, 8-1. They improve to 10-3 overall and are 6-0 in the Landmark. Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia/Saint Ignatius) and Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) won 8-6 over Joe Caracappa and Seth Hoesman while Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) and Sho Sato (Shiga, Japan/Kansai Gaidai University) prevailed 8-3 against Jack Hodges and Midori Fujitani.

 

Polisena had a battle with Caracappa at first singles. He won 6-1 in the first set but the two were tied 6-6 in the second set. Polisena trailed 3-0 in the tiebreaker but recovered to take the set and the match.

 

Gregory, Moore, and Lifshitz were all winners at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. Gregory's win was his ninth straight while Lifshitz won his seventh match in a row

 

Juniata has one more conference match on its slate. JC will face Susquehanna on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
