Mens Swimming

Nathan Smith enters his sixth season as head swim coach at Juniata College. 

Five-time All-American Nathan Smith was named the new head women’s swimming coach at Juniata College beginning the 2012-13 season.  Smith took over a program that finished 10-5 in dual meets and posted its best post-season finish in the past four years last year.

In his first season at the helm, Smith led the Eagles to a 6-6 record in dual meets and a sixth place finish at the 2013 Landmark Swimming and Diving Championships. At the 2014 Championships, the team raked in 348.5 points, the highest point total ever. In the 2014 season, the Eagles set at total of eight program records, claimed three event titles at the Landmark Championship meet, and had four swimmers earn all-conference honors. The Eagles claimed for the 200 and 400 free relays and the 100 back and grabbed second place in the 200 medley relay. 

“We are very excited to have Nathan Smith lead our swim program,” said Juniata Athletic Director Greg Curley.  “His background as a highly successful student-athlete and his experiences in two of the nation’s top DIII swim programs will serve him well as he looks to continue the growth and improvement of our swim team.”

Smith grabbed the reigns after working as an assistant coach at DePauw University.  During his one year with the program, the Tigers set 14 school records and earned 17 Honorable Mention All-American awards.  

Not taking a break after graduating from Kenyon College (’11), Smith spent time with the Brentwood Barracudas out of Nashville, Tenn. as an assistant coach working with 9-15 year old intermediate swimmers. 

His exceptional work ethic was evident inside the pool and in the classroom.  Not only was Smith a member of three NCAA Division III National Championship teams, he was also a three-time Academic All-American and earned the Dean’s List xx times throughout his collegiate career.
