Men's Swimming Opens Season at Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Juniata men's swim began the 2023-24 season with a meet at Goucher on Saturday, although they were defeated 91-48. It's the first meet for both swim programs since the program took a pause from varsity competition in 2022-23.  

Jay Gajiwala logged two individual victories on the day, winning the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle by beating out one competitor from Goucher. He finished the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.82, while the 200-yard freestyle was a 2:39.26 finish. 

Matthew Tiernan and Isaac March each competed in the 50-yard freestyle. Tiernan claimed second place from four competitors with a time of 28.29, while March was third with a time of 29.57. 

Tiernan also competed in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke, finishing second place in both events with a time of 1:06.89 in the 100-yard freestyle and a time of 37.29 in the 50-yard backstroke. 

March also competed in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard butterfly. He was third in the breaststroke with a time of 37.46, while he claimed fourth place in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 33.22. 

The Juniata men's swimming team faces Lycoming at home next Saturday at 1:00 pm, the first of two home meets.
