Mona Breaks Juniata 500 Free Record, Men Sit in Eighth Place after Day One of Landmark Championships

GERMANTOWN, Md.- The Juniata men's swim team currently sits in eighth place with 47 points after day one of Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships.

Freshman, Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) broke the Juniata school record in the 500 freestyle in finals. Mona placed 14th in the event with a time of 4:54.91. Dima Kunstbeck (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area HS), Martin Berger (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area), Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny), and Mona all achieved lifetime best times after day one of championships. 

This morning, Kunstbeck placed 25th while Jackson Hoch (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) placed 26th in the 500 freestyle. Kunstbeck touched the wall at 5:35.85 and Hoch came in with a time of 5:43.41. In the 50 freestyle, Walker placed 24th touching the wall at 23.44, Berger placed 26th (23.56), and Nicholas Gerencser (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) placed 34th (26.57). 

In the final session, the relay team of Mona, Kunstbeck, Walker, and Berger came in with a time of 3:57.08, placing eighth in the event. 

The Eagles return to the pool tomorrow for day two of Landmark Championships. Prelims begin at 10:00AM and final begins at 5:30PM.
