Men's Swimming Defeats Penn St.-Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa.- The Juniata men's swim team defeated Penn St.-Altoona 99-80, Friday.

The Eagles took first in the 200 medley relay, the team of Brady Ott (Silver Spring, Md. / Good Counsel), Martin Berger (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area), Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny), and Jackson Hoch (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) came in with a time of 1:53.04. In the 1000 free, Hoch took first clocking in at 12:29.80. In the 200 free, Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) claimed the top spot while Matias Berger (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) took third for the Eagles. Ott took first in the 50 free while teammates Walker and Nicholas Gerencser (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) finished third and fifth respectively. 

Mar. Berger finished second in the 100 IM with a time of 1:03.49 while Dima Kunstbeck (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area HS) finished third with a time of 1:04.57. Ott added another first place as he touched the wall at 56.62 in the 100 fly. In the 100 free, Walker finished second (54.92), Kunstbeck finished third (55.83) and Gerencser finished fifth (1:06.48). Mat. Berger claimed first in the 100 back, as he finished with a time of 1:05.60. 

Mona and Hoch took the top two spots in the 500 free as they clocked in with times of 5:01.77 and 5:58.63, respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Mar. Berger finished second with a time of 1:09.46. In the final event of the meet, the team of Kunstbeck, Walker, Mona, and Gerenscer finished second with a time of 3:50.31 in the 400 free relay. 

"We had some good swims today with great effort all around. Two of our freshmen set school records and our upperclassmen put up some in season bests. The team is picking up momentum and has a lot of room to grow by February," said head coach, Nathan Smith. 

Ott broke the Juniata school record in the 100 fly and Mona broke the Juniata school record in the 500 free. 

Juniata will travel next to Elizabethtown on December 1st. The meet will start at 1:00PM.
