EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team had an offensive explosion on the road as they won 6-1 at Wilkes, Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Jase Colino scored the first two goals of the game, Shawn Tanaka and Victor Vandenbroek had a goal and an assist, while Gavin Rauhut and Donovan Goad scored a goal apiece. Brandon Marzula and Sean Weiland had one assist each. Maxwell Mattioni made one save in goal for the Eagles, and Jackson Gamel closed out the final 10 minutes of the match.
In the 21st minute, Marzula flicked the ball into the box. Colino beat the keeper to the ball inside the six and headed it into the net.
Less than a minute later, Colino was first to a loose ball after a Tanaka saved shot and tapped it in to double the lead.
Two minutes before halftime, Vandenbroek played in a free kick from the right side, and Goad kneed into the roof of the net to make it 3-0 Eagles at the break.
Juniata held an 8-2 advantage in shots at the half.
Six minutes into the second half, Marzula bombed in a long free kick from his own half into the Colonel box. Tanaka let it bounce once, controlled it with his chest, before poking it past the keeper with his left foot.
In the 58th minute, Weiland played a ball in from the right wing that found Rauhut all alone in the box, who headed it past the keeper to make it 5-0.
Wilkes got one back in the 72nd minute before Vandenbroek converted from the penalty spot to complete the scoring.
Juniata outshot Wilkes 25-4, and had 6-1 advantage on corners.
The win means the Eagles are 4-0 in Landmark Conference play, the best start to conference play in program history and the most wins in a season in program history. The six goals are the most the team has ever scored in a match in Landmark Conference play.
Juniata will host Lycoming College on Wednesday at 7:00.
