Eagles Fall on Road to Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road to Landmark Conference opponent Lycoming on Wednesday evening.

Juniata generated a couple of first-half chances, with the best coming in the 20th minute as Ryan Angelone took a corner kick from the right side and nearly bent the ball in off the kick, forcing the keeper to tip the ball over the bar. Emmet Young and Brandon Marzula also generated shots over the bar in the first half.

Lycoming's three goals came in rapid succession, all within a 15-minute period in the middle of the game. After six prior shots, the Warriors broke through in the 39th minute off a corner kick to take the 1-0 advantage. Their set-piece man placed the ball in the air at the near post, and a Lycoming player was the first to rise to it.

Lycoming took full control of the match when they returned from the halftime break, generating two penalty kicks within two minutes of each other a 3-0 advantage. The Warriors player sent Axel Grater the wrong way, putting the ball in the bottom left corner on the first kick.  The second penalty was drawn via a handball on a shot on target; this time, Grater went the right way, but the Lycoming player buried the ball into the top-right corner.

Juniata pressed to get on the board after falling behind but were unsuccessful in their attempts, including a saved Harshaan Grewal shot in the 53rd minute off a corner and a Victor Vandenbroek missile from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar at the top-left corner in the 86th minute.

Juniata ended the game outshot 14-7, and Grater made four saves in the contest.

The men's soccer team continues Landmark Conference play as they host Scranton on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
