Young, Angelone Help Eagles Top Colonels

Young, Angelone Help Eagles Top Colonels

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team struck once in each half to grab their first conference win of the year of visiting Wilkes University, 2-0, on a cloudy and windy Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

In the 17th minute, Sean Weiland bent the ball in from the right wing into the box. Nathan Weick touched the ball to Emmet Young at the top of the 18, and he curved the ball into the bottom right corner.

The Eagles held an 8-0 lead in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

In the 65th minute, Ryan Angelone dispossessed a Wilkes midfielder near the midfield line and started sprinting down the wing. Jalen Holliday ran onto the ball and touched it down the line to Angelone, who was quickly closed down by a pair of Wilkes defenders. He touched the ball back to Holliday with his left foot and continued down the left wing. Holliday took a touch before playing a ball between the two defenders back to Angelone in the box. The first year from Berlin, New Jersey, took a touch before firing the ball into the right side of the net.

The Eagles finished the match with a 12-8 advantage in shots, while the Colonels had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Axel Grater made four saves in goal to earn the shutout.

Juniata will travel to take on Lycoming Tuesday at 7:00.
