Tartans Strike Thrice in First Half to Top Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team lost 3-0 to visiting Carnegie Mellon Tuesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

A seven-minute burst from the Tartans saw them score three goals in quick succession.

In the 10th minute, after a blocked shot attempt, a Tartan was first to the ball, and he volleyed it into the top right corner of the goal.

Two minutes later, after pressuring the Eagles in their own half, CMU got the ball 30 yards out and played a through ball into the box. Another Tartan latched onto it and smashed it towards goal, but Axel Grater parried it. CMU was first to the loose ball and slotted it into the bottom right side of the goal to double their advantage.

In the 17th minute, on a dead ball from 22 yards out, a CMU attacker lasered the ball into the upper left half of the goal to cement their lead.

Juniata produced their best opportunity moments after the restart. Grater smashed the ball downfield on a punt that Ian Edwards headed into the path of Nathan Weick. Weick squared it back to Edwards, who took a touch and fired, but it went wide right of the goal.

Carnegie Melon outshot the Eagles 15-3 overall in the game and had two corners to JC's one.

Grater made five saves in net.

Juniata returns to action this Saturday as the Eagles travel to take on Goucher in Maryland.
