Weick's Brace Sparks Eagles Comeback Win Over Cougars

Weick's Brace Sparks Eagles Comeback Win Over Cougars

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team climbed out of an early two-goal hole to come back and triumph over visiting Chatham University, 4-2, on a wet Tuesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Eight minutes into the contest, Chatham hit the Eagles with a quick counter that saw their attack latch onto a long ball down the left wing, take a touch into the box, and finish past a diving Maxwell Mattioni

In the 25th minute, a deflected shot from outside the box ended up in the back of the Eagle net as they found themselves down 2-0.

The Eagles halved the deficit three minutes later, as Ian Edwards fired a shot from the left side of the goal that the Cougar keeper could only parry. The ball wound up right in front of Jalen Holliday, who finished calmly.

In the 37th minute, Gavin Rauhut played a ball into the box from around midfield that bounced once in the box before Nathan Weick beat everyone to the ball and poked it past the keeper to level the score.

Less than two minutes before the halftime break, Weick struck again. Ryan Angelone played a ball in the air around the 18 that Weick flicked to Holliday. Holliday controlled the ball and played it back to Weick, whose defender had fallen over and was wide open. Weick took a touch before slotting home into the right corner of the goal to bring the Eagles in front.

Juniata went into the locker room up 3-2, holding a 13-3 edge in shots.

The Eagles controlled most of the second half, outshooting Chatham 10-1, and in the 80th minute found their insurance goal.

On a free kick from along the end line to the right of the goal, Angelone lofted the ball in, and Rauhut skied above everyone to nod the ball in to complete the scoring.

The Eagles will travel to take on King's on Saturday at 7:30.
