Edwards Brace Secure Eagles First Victory of the Season

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men's soccer team fortified their first win of the season Wednesday night at Gibbel Stadium. An Ian Edwards brace and Nathan Weick added one of his own to earn a 3-2 victory over Pitt-Greensburg. The Eagles outshot the Bobcats 18-11.

Edwards scored first for the Eagles. The Bobcats cleared it to the Eagles backline, who put the ball back up the middle of the field. Emmet Young tapped the ball to place it in between two Bobcat defenders, putting Edwards into dangerous territory. Edwards fought his way through the closing two defenders and shot right past an oncoming keeper to make it 1-0.

Jayden Gaynor found the ball on the right side of the box, fighting past a Pitt-Greensburg defender to cross the ball through several Bobcats and to Weick. Weick turned and hit a rocket off his right foot, placing the ball past a diving keeper to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

The Bobcats scored their first goal in the 11th minute of the second half.

Edwards' second goal of the night came from a defender deflection, the ball bounced over the keeper's head and outstretched arms. Edwards was right there to walk the ball into the net.

Pitt-Greensburg scored one more off a corner kick in the 77th minute of the game, but the Eagles held on to win 3-2.

The Eagles head to Swarthmore this Saturday, September 9 for a 4:00 pm start.
