Eagles Score Quartet in First Conference Win of the Year

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The men's soccer team won their first conference match against Susquehanna in a 4-2 victory Wednesday night at Gibbel Stadium.

The Eagles outshot the River Hawks totaling 14 shots to Susquehanna's six.

Emmet Young came hungry, taking a shot in the first five minutes of the game, but was blocked by a River Hawk defender. Young took that momentum into the 15th minute and fired a ball into the upper right corner of the net on an assist from Victor Vandenbroek, who crossed the ball from about 20 yards over the midfield line, putting the Eagles up 1-0.

Susquehanna was able to get one passed Axel Grater on a penalty kick in the 24th minute to tie up the first half.

Following a Susquehanna foul, Amo Mashigo placed the ball right to Harshaan Grewal's head, bouncing passed a River Hawk defender, and into the goal to edge the Eagles up 2-1 in the 34th minute of play.

Andrew Murta played a ball into the box from a corner kick to find Grewal's head again, but the Susquehanna goalkeeper stopped the shot. The ball bobbled around the six-yard box before landing right in front of Ty Mazzarella, who scored his first career goal in the 67th minute to solidify a 3-1 lead.

Susquehanna put back a second goal in the 87th minute off a free kick that just snuck into the corner of the JC goal.

Blake Cassel made sure the Eagles weren't finished and answered back with a goal just a minute later. Receiving a ball up the leftfield line from Mashigo, Cassel found himself going 1v1 with the goalie and two defenders trailing right behind before placing the ball on the ground into the right-side netting to finish the scorecard with Juniata's advantage 4-2.

The Eagles will celebrate senior day Saturday, October 22, at 1:00 pm, hosting Drew at Gibbel Stadium.
