Eagles Tame Wildcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team dominated for 90 minutes as they cruised past visiting Penn College in nonconference action, 3-0, Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Three minutes into the contest, Ian Edwards bombed in a long throw from the right side that glanced off some heads before falling to Malvin Madzimbamuto, who lashed the ball towards goal. It took a helpful deflection off a Wildcat defender before crashing into the net to make it 1-0 Juniata.

In the seventh minute, Amo Mashigo played a ball over the top of the defense down the left wing that Sean Weiland got to and crossed. Edwards ripped a first-time shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and out.

Two minutes later, Madzimbamuto looked to double the lead and his goals for the day as he got a cross on the left side at the near post and fired towards goal, but it bounced off the post and out.

Brandon Marzula had a shot go wide right of the frame, and Weiland drew a save from the Wildcat keeper as the Eagles peppered the visitor goal early.

In the 26th minute, another long pass from Mashigo down the left side forced the Wildcat keeper to come out and try to clear the ball. A deflected ball fell perfectly to Blake Cassel, who casually placed the ball in the right corner to double the lead.

Juniata led 2-0 at the break and held a 13-1 advantage in shots.

The second half was more of the same as Juniata controlled the game and limited Penn College's chances to try and halve the deficit.

In the 84th minute, Emmet Young put the game to bed when he received a cross-field pass from Shepard Soisson on the left side of the 18, took a touch, and curled the ball over the keeper into the net to make it 3-0.

Juniata outshot the Wildcats 10-1 in the second half. Arun Subramanian made one save to secure the shutout.

The Eagles will travel to the nation's capital to play Catholic Saturday at 1:00.
