Greyhounds Put Pair of Goals Past Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata men's soccer team conceded goals to end the first half and to start the second half to fall to 2-0 to Moravian on Saturday afternoon to open Landmark Conference play.

Juniata started the match with control of the ball and more chances on goal, with six shots in the first twenty minutes of play. The Eagles' best early chances came from several shots on goal, including an 11th-minute shot from Malvin Madzimbamuto, a 13th-minute header from Blake Cassel, a 21st-minute shot from Cassel, and a 23rd-minute shot from Emmet Young.

The back end of the first half saw a shift in momentum as Moravian began to find chances on goal. The Greyhounds put on a header on goal in the 28th minute to force a save from Arun Subramanian. Moravian generated two shots and three headers before drawing a foul from the Juniata defense on a carry near the goal line. Moravian sent Subramanian right and buried the ball in the top left corner to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Moravian opened the second half with a 48th-minute goal to double the advantage. A cross found an unmarked Greyhound player near the penalty spot, who put the shot past Subramanian into the bottom right corner.

Juniata swiftly responded with shots from Andrew Murta in the 48th minute and Madzimbamuto in the 59th minute to force saves from the Moravian keeper. Moravian reclaimed control of the match with three shots on goal between the 60th and 75th minutes. The final chance from the Eagles came on an 88th corner kick that found Cassel, who missed high.

Subramanian made six games in the match, while the Moravian keeper also tallied six saves. The Eagles tallied ten shots that included six on target, with Cassel and Madzimbamuto each putting a pair of shots on goal.

Juniata returns to play on Wednesday, September 28, as the Eagles head to Pittsburgh to play the Carnegie Mellon Tartans. Juniata enters the matchup with an 0-6 record, and last played the Tartans in 2008.
