Eagles Suffer Setback at Hood

Juniata Men's soccer player Jacob Grove

FREDERICK, Md.- The Juniata men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback at Hood College, Wednesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Blazers scored the opening goal of the game five minutes into the contest. Juniata looked to have settled into the game some, as they drew a corner and Jarrod Gibson (Abington, Pa./Abington) ripped a shot just wide, but the Blazers continued to attack, and by the 30th minute they were ahead 3-0.

A minute after the third goal, Jacob Grove (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin HS) fired a shot on frame, but the Blazer keeper was equal to the effort and saved it. Juniata continued to try and get one back before half time as Bass Diakhoumpa (Dakar, Senegal/Mercersburg Academy) got two shots off, one on frame, but again the Blazer keeper was up to the challenge. JC went into the locker room down 3-0.

Hood added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute and one final goal in the 86th to complete the scoring.

Matt Mottershead (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made his first career start in net, and had five saves.

The Eagles return to action at home to face York, Saturday at 2:00.
