Cardinals Down Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team fell 6-1 to Catholic, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Gabe Duran (Temple, Pa./Oley Valley) scored the lone goal for the Eagles, the first goal of his career.

Catholic came out firing early, and 17 minutes in Patrick Mogan put away a loose ball in the box to make it 1-0 for the Cardinals.

In the 21st minute, Juniata created one of their best chances of the game. Wyatt Page (King of Prussia, Pa./Shipley) took a ball from a Catholic defender and passed it ahead to Charlie Kovach (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley). Kovach played a through ball to Page who sprinted by two defenders and fired a low drive that the Catholic keeper kicked away at the last moment. Three minutes later, Catholic doubled their lead.

Juniata managed to pull one back in the 34th minute. A ball bouncing towards the 18 box of Catholic caused a miscommunication as the defender tried to head the ball back to the keeper, but the keeper was sprinting out to the ball. The defender wound up heading the ball over the keeper and towards an empty net. Duran flew past both players and finished easily into an empty net. Catholic tallied a goal a minute and a half later as they went into the half up 3-1.

The second half saw Catholic find the back of the Eagle net thrice more.

The Cardinals held a 17-5 edge in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Juniata will play at Susquehanna, Wednesday at 7:00.
