HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College men's soccer team suffered a tough, 2-1 loss to Mount Aloysius, Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.
Joe Stipe (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) scored for the Eagles, with Jacob Grove (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin HS) providing the assist. Andrew Yeich (Middletown, Pa./Middle Area) made seven saves in net for the Eagles.
The Mounties looked dangerous early, firing wide and forcing goalkeeper Yeich into a save in the first seven minutes. Several minutes later, Wyatt Page (King of Prussia, Pa./Shipley) fired a shot that got deflected wide so Juniata was awarded a corner. The Eagles played it in and after a quick back and forth, Grove whipped in a cross that Stipe directed past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Mount Aloysius turned up the pressure, forcing the Juniata defense to block several shots and Yeich to make a diving stop. The Eagles went into the half with a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes into the second half, the Mounties fired in a cross from the right wing that a forward head in to tie things up at 1-1.
In the 80th minute, Yeich came running out and head a ball clear that fell to a Mount Aloysius player. The Mountie fired the shot towards goal but Stipe cleared the ball of the line. Five minutes later, Mount Aloysius scored to take a 2-1 lead. In the final seconds of the game, Juniata had a free kick at the 50. The ball was played into the box and Kuba Kreciglowa (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) headed towards net, but it went over the crossbar.
Juniata will play at Pitt-Bradford, Saturday at 3:00.
