Gophers Take 3-0 Victory Over Men's Soccer

TOWSON, MD – The Juniata men's soccer team held the Goucher Gophers to just three shots in the second period Saturday afternoon but the Gophers would take the game 3-0 from the Eagles.

Goucher scored in the 15th minute mark of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Just 16 minutes later, the Gophers scored off a deflected shot to go up 2-0.

At the half, the Landmark Conference foes were evenly matched, aside from the score. Goucher held a slim 10-9 advantage in shots, the Eagles held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks and each team had recorded six saves. 

James Johnson (Cumberland, MD / Fort Hill) got the start in goal for Juniata. The keeper notched five saves in the first half. 

Achim Schwemmlein (NRW, Germany) played the second half between the posts and recorded one save.

The Gophers made it a 3-0 game in the 64th minute and held off six shots from Juniata to take the win.

Dani Meyer-Arrivillaga (Durham, NC / Carolina Friends) led the offensive effort for the Eagles. Meyer-Arrivillaga took seven shots, four of which were on goal. Chandler Steffen (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land) followed with three shots. 

Juniata plays its final road game of the season Tues. Oct. 27 against Pitt.-Greensburg at 2pm.
