Men's Soccer Shut Down by Lycoming

Men's Soccer Shut Down by Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Juniata men's soccer team was shut out for the first time this season by the Lycoming Warriors Wednesday afternoon. Lycoming defeated the Eagles 6-0.

The Warriors jumped ahead of the Eagles early and scored their first goal in the tenth minute mark of the game. Lycoming stayed aggressive on the offense and sank another header into the back of the net to go up 2-0 at the end of the first half. The Warriors would continue their offensive domination in the second half and go on to win 6-0.

Chandler Steffen (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land) and Jonah Ruggiero (Bangor, PA / Bangor) each recorded a shot on goal against Lycoming.

"They (Lycoming) dominated the physical part of the match," head coach Dan Dubois said. "Lycoming is very big and very fast. It was difficult for us to maintain position and get any kind of flow going."

The Eagles had just played against King's College Monday afternoon, leaving little recovery time between games.

Achim Schwemmlein (NRW, Germany) got the start in goal for the Eagles and recorded three saves. James Johnson (Cumberland, MD / Fort Hill) came in to play the second half, played 31 minutes and made three saves. Mark Lee (Newtown Square, PA / Marple Newtown) made his first appearance between the posts for the Eagles.

Juniata looks to snap a two-game losing streak when they open Landmark Conference play this Saturday on the road against Drew.

Despite Wednesday's results, Dubois anticipates his team returning to practice with even more focus.

"We're going to see a level of focus and determination start to go up a lot tomorrow," Dubois said. "Getting a clear head and the motivation to prevent this from happening again will help them get ready for this weekend."

The Eagles and Rangers kick off at 1pm at Ranger Stadium.
