Monarchs Oust Eagles in 2OT, 2-1 final

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata men's soccer team carried a solid defensive effort into double overtime against King's College (PA) Monday afternoon. The Monarchs would take the win on a shot from the left corner by Brian Fenster to win the game 2-1. Juniata falls to 2-2-1 on the season.

The Monarchs play a fast-paced game and use their speed to their advantage. Juniata played smart to level the playing field.

The Eagles would strike first on a laser from Chandler Steffen (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land). Steffens goal came in the 25th minute mark.

"Chandler got his first start of the season and he definitely took advantage of the situation," head coach Dan Dubois said. "He worked hard, always has, and today he was opportunistic and was able to score a big goal for us."

King's would score the equalizer just ten minutes later and the score would stay tied at one until the second overtime period.

As the clock wound down in the first overtime period, Steven Stroup (Bedford, PA / Bedford) drilled a shot at the goal but the Monarch's Owen Geedey made the save.

The Eagles would carry momentum into the second overtime but King's would end up with the game-winner just a minute and a half into the period.

"We were really pushing and when we didn't get what we were looking for, they countered and we were out of position," Dubois said.

James Johnson (Cumberland, MD / Fort Hill) was in between the posts for Juniata and made seven saves. Reese Fisher (State College, PA / State College Area) and Dylan Thompson (Broomfield, Co / Peak to Peak Charter) led the defense and were able to contain the Monarchs offense and clear the ball out of their zone many times.

As regulation was coming to a close, Fisher took a shot that just went high above the crossbar. He finished with two shots on goal.

Juniata prepares for the Warriors of Lycoming next. The two teams kick off Wed. Sept. 16 at 4:30pm.
