Men’s Soccer defeats Moravian 3-2, Earns First Conference Win

Huntingdon, Pa., Dani Meyer- Arrivillaga (Durham, NC / Carolina Friends) played a solid through ball from Aaron Kulig (Green Lane, Pa. / Boyertown) and scored in a one-on-one opportunity in front of the net to put the Eagles ahead 3-2 in their first home match in over two weeks. Juniata earned its second win in a row and firs in Landmark conference play.

After coming alive offensively for three goals against Penn State Berks earlier in the week, the Eagles continued to stay hot on attack.  Dylan Thompson (Broomfield, Co. / Peak to Peak Charter) scored the games first goal off of a free kick seven minutes into the match. In the 39th minute, Adam Heller (Rockville, Md. / Colonel Zadak Magruder) redirected a beautiful cross from Patrick McEvoy (Avon, NY / Avon Central) to give the team a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, Moravian retaliated with two unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes to tie the contest. The match remained at a draw, until Meyer-Arivillaga scored to put the Eagles ahead. The goal gives Meyer-Arivillaga the tie for leader on the team with four.

James Johnson (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill) started his fifth game in goal for Juniata. The keeper made 3 saves and made some big plays in the net to keep his team in position to come away with the victory.

Head coach Dan Dubois was very excited about the win today and was pleased with how well his team has played this week, "The guys have worked really hard in training. They gained a little confidence this last week. Six goals in two games, only had one in the previous seven. I'm glad they are getting payoff for their work." The coach added, "They fought through adversity today. We were playing against a dangerous opponent. They've shown that with big wins. We gave them the respect that they deserved. They pushed hard in the second half, but we were able to weather the storm." Dubois also discussed the team's the team's place in Landmark standings, "Right now, the conference looks open. It's going to be a battle for a playoff spot. We'll look to keep things rolling against Merchant Marine. I'm really excited about our prospects down the stretch."

The Eagles are now 4-10, 1-3 on the season. The team will travel to Merchant Marine for another conference match next Saturday. Match time is set for 12:00 pm.
