Meyer-Arivillaga’s Two Goals Lead Juniata over Pitt-Bradford, 2-1

Meyer-Arivillaga’s Two Goals Lead Juniata over Pitt-Bradford, 2-1

HUNTINGDON, PA. Looking to rebound from a tough loss at Mt. Aloysius yesterday, the Juniata men’s soccer team defeated the Pitt-Bradford Panthers (0-6) 2-1 at home earlier today. Dani Meyer-Arivillaga (Durham, NC/Carolina Friends) scored both goals for the Blue and Gold and has three in the last two games.

After missing on their first two attempts, Juniata took an early 1-0 lead on a header from Meyer-Arrivillaga off a cross from Patrick McEvoy (Avon, NY/Avon Central). The Eagles continued to pressure the Panthers goalie Colin Frownfelter as they registered seven shots in the first twenty-three minutes of the match. The Eagles totaled thirteen shots in the first half.

Pitt-Bradford tied the match at one-all when Ethan Acaster scored the equalizer on a cross from teammate Seth Levy. The Panther’s defense stymied the Juniata offense in the second half as it reduced the Eagles shots to four in the last forty-five minutes of game time.

Juniata retook the lead when Meyer-Arivillaga redirected a pass from Adam Heller (Rockville, MD/Colonel Zadak Magruder) to put the Eagles up 2-1.  JC almost captured the lead earlier when Taylor Golemboski (Phillipsburg, PA/Phillipsburg-Osceola) nearly headed in a free kick by senior Robby Higgins (Middletown, PA/Lower Dauphin). Golemboski just missed another attempt moments later.

Garrett Lavelle (Eden, NY/Eden) got the victory in goal as he stopped four shots. Frownfelter had eight saves for the Panthers.

The Eagles advance to 2-3 on the season and will attempt to get back to .500 as they take on the King’s College Monarchs on Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Game time will be at 7pm.
