Eagles Grab 2-0 Win At Misericordia, Improve to 9-8

DALLAS, Pa. – The Juniata men's soccer team broke out of its slump on the road Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Misericordia 2-0.  The win broke a three-game losing skid for the Eagles who improved to 9-8 on the season.  Misericordia dropped to 11-5-2 with the loss.

Senior Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) and the Eagles defense picked up their fifth shutout of the season.  Cassel finished with a match-high seven saves.  Juniata has allowed just 26 goals in 17 matches.

It was a defensive show as the teams remained scoreless for over 74 minutes.

Senior Greg Hess (Hanover, Pa./South Western) scored the game winner in the 75th minute.  He took a direct kick after a Cougar yellow card to the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

Juniata sealed the deal when freshman Chandler Stephen (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) scored his first goal of the year in the 84th minute.

The Eagles close out the regular season at Landmark rival Scranton this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m.  Juniata fell 2-1 when the teams met last in 2011.  Scranton leads the recent series 5-0.
