DALLAS, Pa. – The Juniata men's soccer team broke out of its slump on the road Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Misericordia 2-0. The win broke a three-game losing skid for the Eagles who improved to 9-8 on the season. Misericordia dropped to 11-5-2 with the loss.
Senior Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) and the Eagles defense picked up their fifth shutout of the season. Cassel finished with a match-high seven saves. Juniata has allowed just 26 goals in 17 matches.
It was a defensive show as the teams remained scoreless for over 74 minutes.
Senior Greg Hess (Hanover, Pa./South Western) scored the game winner in the 75th minute. He took a direct kick after a Cougar yellow card to the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Juniata sealed the deal when freshman Chandler Stephen (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) scored his first goal of the year in the 84th minute.
The Eagles close out the regular season at Landmark rival Scranton this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. Juniata fell 2-1 when the teams met last in 2011. Scranton leads the recent series 5-0.
