Men’s soccer upended by Goucher, 2-0

TOWSON, Md. – Juniata College men's soccer couldn't overcome Goucher College on the road and lost 2-0, to mark the team's second Landmark Conference loss of the season on Saturday in Towson, Md.

Juniata (6-5-0, 0-2 Landmark) got behind early in the contest, as the Gophers' Hudson Bielecki took advantage of a free kick opportunity around midfield in the eighth minute, assisted by Brandon Weiner.

The Eagles managed to outshoot Goucher (3-4-1, 1-2 Landmark) in the first half with eight shots compared to Goucher's six, but Juniata failed to turn any of its opportunities into goals and headed into halftime down 1-0.

Goucher netted a security goal in the 52nd minute when Nate Margolis chipped the ball into the goalie box to the foot of Parker Bay.

Juniata finished the day with 20 shots, only three of which were on target and forced keeper Scott Witte to stop all three. Dane Azeles (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Greg Hess (Hanover, Pa./South Western) each took a team-high three shots in the contest.

Juniata's keeper Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) allowed both Gopher goals and recorded one save.

The Eagles manufactured five corner kick opportunities in all 90 minutes of play, while holding Goucher to zero corners.

Juniata will break until Saturday, October 6, when the squad hosts Moravian College for its third conference competition of the 2012 season. The game is scheduled to begin following the women's 1:00 p.m. game versus Moravian at 3:30 p.m.
