Men’s soccer tops Pitt.-Bradford 3-0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata men's soccer took away a 3-0 victory over Pitt.-Bradford on Wednesday afternoon on Winton Hill Field to launch the Eagles to a 4-1 start to the 2012 season.

Juniata (4-1) was again led offensively by junior Dane Azeles (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg), who scored two goals for Juniata including the game winner in the 20th minute assisted by Greg Hess (Hanover, Pa./South Western).

Azeles again found the back of the net again in the 53rd minute off an Andy Blunk (State College, Pa./State College Area) pass.

"We knew that once he got his first collegiate goal there was a lot more to come from Dane, and he certainly has proved that in the last three games, scoring four goals in the last three outings," said Head Coach Dan Dubois.

Nick Stone-Weiss grabbed his third goal of the season with a header goal off a Hess cross in the 76th minute to cap the game's scoring.

Dubois commented, "After a rough first half, we challenged the guys at halftime to step-up and stick to our game plan; they did in the second half and it worked in our favor."

Senior keeper Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) held down the Juniata net and didn't allow any of Pitt.-Bradford's (1-4) 12 shots to cross the goal line and recorded two saves for his second shutout on the season.

The Eagles go on the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, September 12, for a 4:00 pm game at Mount Aloysius.
