Men’s soccer puts Bearcats in the pound

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College men's soccer team went on a scoring spree against Saint Vincent College on Wednesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field to earn a 6-0 shutout.

Freshman Dylan Thompson (Broomfield, Colo./Peak to Peak Charter) is awarded the game winner and was assisted by Anthony Glossner (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) in the 44th minute. Less than 30 seconds later, Nathan Zimmerman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) found the foot of junior Evan Decker (New Berlin, Pa./Mifflinburg) for another Juniata (2-1) goal.

But it was the second half that Juniata really started connecting on their shots. Dane Azeles (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) put one in at the 62:03 mark and was assisted by Jonah Ruggerio (Bangor, Pa./Bangor). Just five minutes later, Robby Higgins (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored his first goal of the season, followed by Nick Stone-Weiss' (North Olmstead, Ohio, North Olmstead) second goal of the 2012 campaign in the 78th minute.

To top it all off, freshman Adam Heller (Rockville, Md./Colonel Zadok Magruder) grabbed his first collegiate goal, assisted by Patrick McEvoy (Avon, N.Y./Avon Central) to end the Juniata scoring with just one minute to go on the clock.

Juniata pounded out 24 shots at Saint Vincent (1-2) keeper Clemente Mejia and Mejia was able to deny 10 shots in all 90 minutes of play. Juniata's goalkeeper, Ezra Cassel (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) was only tested once in the contest and he recorded the save to earn his first shutout of the season.
