Colonels Edge Past Eagles

Colonels Edge Past Eagles

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- The Juniata men's lacrosse team visited Wilkes University on Thursday and lost by a final score of 12-9.

In a game where the Eagles seemed to be out of the competition at halftime down 10-2, they made a tremendous second half effort to get back into the game. Senior attacker Aiden Duran and junior defenseman Charlie Newman scored multiple goals on the day, and each of them found their first in the opening half.

Duran scored the Eagles' lone goal in the third, but most of the Eagles scoring came in the fourth quarter. Junior midfielder Reuben Stoll and sophomore attacker Beaux Wojciechowski each scored two while Newman bagged his second and Duran found his third. After facing a 10-2 deficit, the Eagles brought it back to 12-9 with just under three minutes left but were unable to close the gap any further. The Eagles held the Colonels to two goals scored in the second half, as the Colonels had done to them in the first.

Stoll, Vincent Bechler, and Brandon Simonini added assists and goalie Ryan Madison accumulated 20 saves on the day.

After the narrow loss, the Eagles will fall to 0-2 in conference play and 2-8 overall. They'll be looking for their first conference win at Elizabethtown at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday, April 3.
