Blue Jays Fly Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's lacrosse team lost to visiting Elizabethtown College, 32-6, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Charlie Newman led the Eagles with five goals, while Beaux Wojciechowski tallied a goal and an assist. Kolton Black, Aiden Duran, and Brandon Simonini had an assist apiece. Justin Toney made five saves in goal for the Eagles, Ryan Madison made ten while Kenny Ward made two saves.

Elizabethtown scored 13 goals in the first quarter and the first 16 goals of the game before Newman scooped up a loose ball and fired a low shot past the goalie midway through the second. The Blue Jays added two more before Wojciechowski cut in front of the goal from the left side and beat the keeper with a leaping shot that fired into the right side of the net. A minute later, with Juniata a man up, Simonini found Newman alone on the left side of the goal, and Newman ripped a shot over the goalie's left shoulder to make it 18-3. Juniata would trail 19-3 at the break.

The visitors scored the first five goals of the second half before Duran came from behind the goal with the ball, ran around the right post, hit Newman, who was at the left post and finished easily for his third of the day.

With nine minutes and forty seconds to go in the fourth, Wojciechowski found Newman again at the back post for an easy finish.

In the final minutes of the game, Griffin Umstead started a clear that got the Eagles going in transition; Wojciechowski caught a pass in the middle of the field, found Black near goal who drew the final defender before dishing it to Newman, who finished for his fifth goal of the day, a career-high and ties a program record for goals in a single game.

Juniata is on the road next week as they take on Moravian Saturday at 1:00.
