Juniata Men Fall to Moravian 82-66 on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's basketball team hosted Moravian on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The Greyhounds led 44-29 at halftime on their way to an 82-66 win.

 

The Eagles led 8-7 at the 16:39 mark of the first half. An 11-2 Hounds run gave the visitors a 16-16-10 lead with 13:27 remaining. A 6-0 run by the Eagles gave them their one-point lead back but it did not last long as Moravian countered with a 13-0 run to break open a 29-17 advantage with 6:43 showing on the clock. The Eagles wound get as close at 36-28 following a layup from Marcus Lee (Carrolltown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) with 2:11 to go until halftime. A 7-1 Greyhound run to end the half gave Moravian its 15-point advantage at the break.

 

The Eagles started the second half with layups from Braden Becker (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) and Dennis Fisher (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) to close the gap to 44-33. Juniata got to within 10 points of tying, 49-39, with 13:50 remaining in the contest. That would be as close as the Eagles could make the score as Moravian expanded its lead to as much as 20 points, 75-55, with 4:28 remaining and had a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

 

Statistically, Juniata had a better overall shooting percentage than Moravian with a 48.1%-42.6% advantage. The difference came from beyond the three-point arc as the Eagles missed on all four of their attempts while the Hounds were 10-of-25 for 40%.

 

Moravian led on the boards 39-37. JC dominated in paint 50-34.

 

Three players scored in double digits for the Eagles led by Paul Martello (York, Pa./York Catholic) and his 13 points. Fisher and Brandon Martinazzi (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Carroll) both added 11 points each with Fisher pulling down a season-high nine rebounds to lead the team. In his first start of the season, Becker scored nine points and grabbed one rebound. Seth Brewer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) dished out six assists to go along with six points and four rebounds.

 

Juniata (11-12, 3-9 Landmark) hosts its final regular season game of the season this Wednesday when its hosts Goucher. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
