Eagles Drop Fighting Saints 93-60 at Doc Greene Tournament

THE HEADLINE: Juniata hosted the 25th annual Doc Greene Tournament on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles nearly matched their highest shooting percentage of the season as they easily won over the College of St. Joseph's 93-60.

 

FIRST HALF: JC dominated in the first half as it shot over 68% from the floor. Marcus Lee (Carrolltown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) was 7-of-9 shooting for 15 points to lead the Eagles. Juniata went into the locker room with a 52-28 advantage.

 

SECOND HALF: The Eagles' shooting cooled off a bit in the second frame but JC still maintained its big lead over the Fighting Saints.  Scoring was evenly distributed with Braden Becker (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) putting down eight points.

 

KEY PERFORMERS: Overall, Lee led the way with 19 points. Juniata also received double-digit scoring from Brandon Martinazzi (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Carroll), and Becker with 10 points each. Becker also pulled down a season-high rebounds. Martinazzi finished with six rebounds.

 

KEY STATS: As a team, Juniata shot 39-of-68 (57.4%) from the floor. The Eagles controlled inside of the paint with a 56-18 lead. Rebounds also favored JC by a margin of 45-31.

 

FROM THE COACH: "It was good to get everybody in," said head coach Greg Curley afterwards. "We were able to get some minutes from guys who have to provide depth over the year." Curley mentioned the play of Becker and said it was a credit to his hard work and the leadership that he provides.

 

UP NEXT: The Eagles advance to tomorrow afternoon's championship game at 4:00 p.m. They will play Case Western Reserve who held off Lynchburg 64-63 in the night's earlier contest. The Hornets and Fighting Saints will square off in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m.
