HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata trailed 9-3 early in the first half but a 13-0 run helped the Eagles take a lead they would not relinquish as they won 69-53 over Marymount on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium. The win lifts JC's record to 3-1 overall while the Saints fall to 1-2.
Marymount led 9-3 with exactly 15 minutes to play in the first half. The Eagles' 13-0 run that spanned over three minutes of game time gave them a 16-9 advantage. The JC lead grew to 14 points, 25-11, with 7:05 showing on the game clock. The Saints fought their way back to get the score to 30-26 at 17 seconds but Seth Brewer's (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) jumper at the buzzer made the score 32-26 in Juniata's favor at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles' 16-4 run to start put them up 48-30 with 14:40 to play and gave them a lead they would not let go. Juniata's lead was as much as 23 points with 9:09 left to play.
Marcus Lee (Carrolltown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) led with 21 points and added a team-best 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He also blocked three shots. Brandon Martinazzi (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Carroll) put up 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and was good on four of his five three-point attempts. Damon Rickens (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) tallied 11 points. Brewer finished with eight points, six boards, five assists, and two steals. Trevor Clune (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) scored 10 points off the bench for the Eagles and also picked up five rebounds and and five assists.
Juniata shot 24-of-26 (52.2%) from the floor compared to Marymount's 17-of-40 (42.5%). The Eagles dominated on the glass with a 33-19 advantage. JC had a 20-7 advantage in points off of turnovers, 10-2 in second chance points, and 28-22 in the paint.
The Eagles are idle until next Saturday when they being Landmark Conference play as Juniata travels to Scranton to play the Royals. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
