Eagles Roll Over Presidents 85-59 in Home Opener

THE HEADLINE: Juniata men's basketball hosted Washington and Jefferson College on Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles led for most of the game as they cruised to an 85-59 victory. Juniata improves to 2-1 overall while the Presidents fall to 0-4.

FIRST HALF: Juniata trailed 12-11 with 12:23 to play in the first. The Eagles then went on a 24-1 run to break open the contest and take a 31-13 lead with 7:54 to go in the frame.

SECOND HALF: The Presidents outscored the Eagles 41-40 in the second half. Juniata led by as much as 41 points, 76-35, with 7:35 to play. Washington and Jefferson did mount a 12-0 run to narrow the score to 76-47 but the game was well in hand for the Eagles by that point.

KEY PERFORMERS: Three players scored in double figures for JC led by Marcus Lee's (Carrolltown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He also picked up five steals. Brandon Martinazzi (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Carroll) added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Trevor Clune (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) scored 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench and pulled down three rebounds

KEY STATS: Juniata shot 57.6% from the floor (34-of-59) compared to the Presidents' 39.2% (20-of-51). The Eagles dominated in the paint with a 56-10 advantage. The JC bench also played a role as it scored 37 points to 18 for W&J.

COMING UP: Juniata returns to Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday to host Marymount. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
