Men's Hoops Downed by #14 Catholic, 75-60

HUNTINGDON, PA- Three Juniata players scored in double figures but #14 ranked Catholic was hot shooting the ball as the Cardinals upended the Eagles 75-60 on Wednesday night at Memorial Gymnasium. JC's record now stands at 11-13 overall and 5-10 in the Landmark Conference. CU improves to 21-3 and remains unbeaten in the conference with a 15-0 mark.

 

The Cardinals shot a blistering 83.3% (10-of-12) from beyond the three-point arc on the night. Overall, Catholic was good on 60% (27-of-45) of its field goals.

 

Leading the way for Juniata was Marcus Lee (Carrolltown, PA/Bishop Carroll) who scored 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. He also picked up four rebounds and blocked three shots. Trevor Clune (Meadville, PA/Meadville Area) added 14 points, six boards, and two steals. Seth Brewer (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) contributed 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and dished out a team-high four assists.

 

Juniata took its only lead of the game 23 seconds in when Lee sank two free throws. Catholic would tie it on a jumper by Jay Howard and went ahead on another basket by Howard. The Eagles were able to tie the game again, this time on a pair of free throws from Kyle Koehler (Chester Springs, PA/Devon Prep).

 

Catholic caught fire as it scored 13 straight points to surge ahead 17-4 with 12:30 showing on the game clock. JC was able to narrow the deficit to single digits three times with the final time coming with 5:14 remaining in the half. The Cardinals closed out the frame on a 9-5 run to lead 38-25 at intermission.

 

The Cardinals only outscored the Eagles 37-35 in the second half but maintained a double-digit advantage throughout. Juniata got as close as 12 points, 44-32, at the 16:21 mark but Catholic showed why it has gone undefeated in the Landmark this year as it kept the Eagles' offense at bay and came out with the victory.

 

Juniata outrebounded the Cardinals 31-24 and brought down a season-high 17 on the offensive side. The Eagles also got strong contributions from its bench as it outscored Catholic's 18-11.

 

The Eagles will look to end their season on a high note when they host Moravian on Saturday. Game time from Memorial Gymnasium will be at 4 p.m.
