Men’s basketball earns No. 1 seed for ECAC South Region tournament

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College men's basketball didn't just earn a spot for the 2012 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament – they were awarded the No. 1 seed after posting the best record in program history.

The Eagles (18-9) will host eighth-seeded Penn State Behrend (16-11, 13-5 Allegheny Mountain) on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 8:00 p.m. at the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center.

Rounding out the eight-team field for the ECAC South Region tournament is No. 2 seed La Roche College, No. 3 seed Catholic University of America, No. 4 seed Alvernia University, No. 5 seed Wilkes University, No. 6 seed Gwynedd Mercy College, and No. 7 seed DeSales University.

The Eagles are coming off a 78-70 loss to the University of Scranton in the Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Championship game, Juniata's third appearance in a conference title game over the past six seasons.

Juniata last earned a spot in the ECAC South Region tournament in 2008, when the sixth-seeded Eagles dropped a 74-70 decision at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa.

There will be no admission charge for Wednesday night's game, which will be a doubleheader with the Juniata men's volleyball match against Thiel College.  That match, already scheduled for 7:00 p.m., will now start at 6:00 p.m.
