Field Hockey Recognized for Several NFHCA Honors

MANAHAWKIN, N.J.- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association recently announced several of its academic recognition awards, with Juniata field hockey athletes earning places on the NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction list and NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, while the team earned the NFHCA Division III National Team Academic Award.

Aimee Buffington, Lillian Case, Brooke Franke, Tatum Livelsberger, Katherine McGrath, Sierra Rossman, Caitlin Steffie, Kaylyn Walters, and Haleigh Wolverton were named 2023 NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction. This distinguished program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have exhibited exceptional academic excellence, achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher throughout the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year. Across Division III, 508 student-athletes were selected for this recognition. 

Juniata tied for the third-most players named to the 2023 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, with 22 named, including Aimee Buffington, Lillian Case, Colleen Creneti, Brooke Franke, Sophia Ganley, Siena Guttormson, Cassie Lease, Morgan Martin, Katherine McGrath, Zoe Merkel, Mallory Prince, Sierra Rossman, Caitlin Steffie, Skyler Stevens, Isabella Stranick, Kara Stringfellow, Kaylyn Walters, Sydney Witter, and Haleigh Wolverton.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, celebrates the academic excellence of undergraduate collegiate student-athletes. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon individuals who have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current academic year, and who have been nominated by their dedicated NFHCA member coaches. 1813 student-athletes from 156 institutions earned a place on the 2023 Division III National Academic Squad.

The entire team was one of 61 Division III programs that earned the 2023 National Academic Team Award. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon programs that have achieved a remarkable team grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year.
