EDWARDSVILLE, PA.- The Juniata field hockey team dropped a tough 1-0 decision on the road to Wilkes Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Five minutes into the game, Aimee Buffington tested the Colonel keeper, but they were up to the challenge as they knocked it away.

In the final three minutes of the first quarter, Brooke Franke smashed a long ball in that found Buffington at the near post. She ripped a shot at goal, the keeper stopped the first, she was first to the loose ball and fired again, but the keeper also stopped that. Mallory Prince got to the second saved ball and shot, but a Wilkes defender stopped the shot and her follow-up as well. The referee signaled for a penalty stroke, but Prince's effort went wide left of the goal.

The Eagles held a 6-3 lead in shots after one.

The second quarter was a battle in the midfield as neither team managed a shot.

Neither team had a penalty corner in the first half.

The Colonel's offense began to look dangerous in the third, as they outshot JC 4-2. Brittney McMullen was equal to all four shots, as she tallied four saves in the period.

Early in the fourth, Wilkes scored on a corner when the ball was played in from the left side, and their forward deflected it in at the back post.

Colleen Creneti and Caitlin Steffie each had a chance just inside of five minutes to go in the game, but the Colonel keeper stopped both efforts.

Juniata will host Lycoming on Wednesday at 7:00.
