Eagles Fall to Two Late Dutchmen Goals

ANNVILLE, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team played their final non-conference game of the season at Lebanon Valley College, losing on two fourth-period Dutchmen goals 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Brittney McMullen kept out seven of nine shots on goal on a day where Lebanon Valley fired 11 total shots to Juniata's four.

Lebanon Valley opened the game with four shots and four penalty corners. Sydney Witter registered the Eagles' first shot of the game 13 minutes in. The second period saw no strong scoring chances from either side, with neither team registering a shot.

The third saw a dramatic start after Juniata opened the half, testing the keeper with a close-range shot in the 33rd minute. The Dutchmen found themselves on the break with a one-on-one chance on goal, with McMullen forced to concede a foul to concede a penalty stroke. The Dutchmen player shot up the middle on the penalty stroke, and McMullen stood firm to deny the chance and keep the game level.

Lebanon Valley persisted in looking for a winner but was unable to convert from three more corners and two more shots. Tess Ledeboer registered the final shot of the third period, missing wide off a penalty corner.

Her narrow-angle shot four minutes into the fourth period was saved, and the Dutchmen found their first goal just moments later with a shot on the edge of the circle to the left of the keeper. Lebanon Valley scored their second goal in the 58th minute to cement their victory.

Juniata returns to play on Saturday with a trip to Landmark Conference opponent Wilkes University for the first matchup between the sides since 2014.
