Eagles Score Four to Douse Phoenixes Flame

Eagles Score Four to Douse Phoenixes Flame

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team continued their high-scoring ways as they defeated visiting Wilson, 4-1, on a boiling hot Wednesday evening at Knox Stadium.

A minute into the game, Tess Ledeboer fed the ball in, and Colleen Creneti poked it past the keeper to put the Eagles on the board.

In the sixth minute, Sydney Witter bopped a ball across the goalmouth from the end line that got past the diving Wilson keeper, and Caitlin Steffie tapped it in to double the lead.

Early in the second quarter, Eagle goalie Brittney McMullen beat a Wilson attacker to the ball and kicked it wide, denying the Phoenix their best opportunity of the game to that point. With four minutes to go in the half, the Phoenix found the back of the Eagle goal on a deflected shot that bounced in to halve the JC lead.

The Eagles led 2-1 at the break, holding a narrow 9-8 lead in shots and a 6-4 lead in penalty corners.

Five minutes into the third, Aimee Buffington had the ball on the end line and passed it to Ledeboer, who beat the keeper to give the Eagles some breathing room.

In the fourth, Witter added her name to the scoresheet as she deflected a pass from Creneti past the Phoenix goalie to complete the scoring.

McMullen made five saves to get the win, while Amanda Puza made one save during her time in goal for the Eagles.

Juniata will host Gettysburg on Saturday at 3:30.
