Mary Washington Emerges Victorious in Battle of the Eagle

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday evening at Knox Stadium.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter, with Sydney Witter forcing a save from the visiting keeper and Colleen Creneti getting a shot blocked.

The second quarter saw Mary Washington score a little under five minutes into the half as their forward smacked a ball toward the cage, and JC couldn't quite keep it out as the ball just crept across the line for a goal.

Five minutes later, Skyler Stevens evened the score when she tapped home a loose ball in front of the cage.

The teams went into the half deadlocked at one all.

The third quarter saw Mary Washington manage four shots, with Amanda Puza making two saves to keep the Eagles in the game.

The fourth quarter saw the visitors explode for four goals, including two in a little over two minutes as Emma Bernard of Mary Washington completed her hattrick. Mary Washington tacked on one more in the final 25 seconds of the game to complete the scoring.

Juniata will travel to take on Drew Saturday at 1:00.
