River Hawks Put Lone Goal Past Eagles

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Juniata field hockey team fell to a third-quarter Susquehanna goal in a 1-0 defeat against the River Hawks on Wednesday night.

Susquehanna controlled much of the first quarter of play, shooting five times and putting two shots on target. Brittney McMullen made two saves in the 10th and 15th minutes of play.

Susquehanna opened the second with a shot on target and a penalty corner in the first three minutes but failed to find the goal.

Juniata put its only chance on goal in the 23rd minute. Colleen Creneti's shot was blocked by a River Hawks defender following a penalty corner.

Susquehanna's strongest attacking push came in the third quarter, and it led to the game's lone goal in the 33rd minute. Following a blocked shot and shot saved by McMullen in the 32nd minute, the River Hawks found the goal moments later.

Two penalty corners led to two wide shots in the middle stages of the third quarter before a barrage of five shots in the final five minutes forced three more saves from McMullen.

Susquehanna tallied a shot on target in the 49th minute and a penalty corner in the 53rd minute, but they were unable to add to their lead in the fourth quarter.

McMullen ended the evening with eight saves and a .888 save percentage, while Creneti's team-blocked shot in the second quarter represented the long shot from the Eagles.

Juniata continues Landmark Conference play with a trip to Baltimore to play Goucher at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 15. Juniata holds a 12-2 record against the Gophers and looks to extend a four-game winning streak in the matchup.
