Field Hockey Drops Conference Finale at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team fell, 2-1 to the University of Scranton, Saturday at Weiss Field.

Scranton scored first in the final minutes of the first quarter to take the lead at 1-0. Juniata held possession of the ball in the second quarter has they held a 5-4 edge over Scranton in shots. The Eagles took four shots in the first three minutes of the quarter but all were saved by the Royal goalie. In the 18th minute, Olivia Marker (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) passed the ball to Catherine Lanigan (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany HS) who tipped the ball into the goal. The Royals and Eagles were tied, 1-1 at the half. 

In the 35th minute, the Royals scored the game winner off a rebound in front of the net. The Eagles took one last shot at the end of the third quarter but the ball was saved by the Scranton goalie. 

The Royals held a 9-6 advantage in shots but Juniata held an 8-7 edge in corners over Scranton. Nicole Piccioni (Richfield, Pa. / Midd-West) made four saves in the goal. 

The Eagles finish the regular season 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the Landmark Conference.
