Field Hockey Opens Conference Play with Win Over Moravian

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team defeated Moravian, 1-0 on Saturday at Knox Stadium.

Juniata opened up the game taking four shots before Moravian got possesion of the ball. Five minutes into the game, Sarah Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) took a shot but it was saved by the goalie. Olivia Marker (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) shot wide in the 28th minute before halftime as the Eagles tried to get an early lead. The first half was scoreless as Juniata out shot Moravian, 11-4. 

In the 37th minute, Juniata was awarded a corner. Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) put in the ball to Madison Miller (York, Pa. / West York). From beyond the thirty, Miller passed it to Catherine Lanigan (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany HS) for the Eagles game winning goal. 

Juniata out shot Moravian, 17-8 and also held an, 8-4 edge in corners. Nicole Piccioni (Richfield, Pa. / Midd-West) made eight saves in goal. 

Juniata returns home, October 2nd as they face York (Pa.) at 7:00 pm.
