Eagles Top Royals 2-1 on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team defeated Scranton, 2-1 on senior day. 

Meredith Shephard (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) and Olivia Marker (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) each tallied a goal in the Eagles, 2-1 win over the Royals. 

Scranton scored first, eight minutes into the game. In the 28th minute, Shephard scored the Eagles first goal after a corner. Shephard came from the center and slid the ball past the Scranton goalie. At the end of the first half the teams were tied at 1-1. 

The Eagles scored early in the second half to take the lead, 2-1. Lindsay Scholten (Holly Springs, N.C. / Brookfield) first took a shot but the ball bounced off the Scranton goalie's pads and into the stick of Marker. Marker took a shot that went high over the goalie for Juniata's game winning goal. 

The Eagles out shot the Royals, 14-6 and also held an edge in corners, 10-3. 

By winning today along with Susquehanna, Juniata, Scranton, and Susqehanna all finished 4-3 in the Landmark Conference. The tiebreakers is as follows: Head-to-head, each team posted a 1-1 record against one another. Against other conference teams in descending order, each team posted the same record: each team lost to Catholic; each team lost to Elizabethtown; each team defeated Goucher; each team defeated Moravian; each team defeated Drew. Comparing goal differential amongst tied teams, with a maximum of three goals per match: Susquehanna defeated Juniata 4-2, and lost to Scranton 2-3 (total of +1); Scranton defeated Susquehanna 3-2, and lost to Juniata 1-2 (total of 0); Juniata defeated Scranton 2-1, and lost to Susquehanna 2-4 (total of -1). Therefore, seeding teams based upon where they rank within this tie-breaker, Susquehanna is the No. 3 seed, Scranton is the No. 4 seed, and Juniata finishes fifth.
