Eagles Hand No. 18 Presidents First Loss of the Season

WASHINGTON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team handed No. 18 Washington & Jefferson their first loss of the season as the Eagles defeated the Presidents, 2-1. 

Catherine Zvorsky (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff H.S.) and Olivia Marker (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) each tallied a goal while Rebecca Waite (Landenberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) added an assist. Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa. / Danville) recorded four saves in goal for Juniata. 

The Presidents scored first in the 19th minute of the game from the middle of the circle in front of the cage. Just two minutes later, the Eagles answered back to tie the game at 1-1. After a penalty corner, Waite assisted Zvorsky. Zvorsky dribbled across an open cage and shot into the lower left. 

In the second half, with just 16 minutes remaining, Marker scored the game winning goal when she shot the ball into the lower right of the goal. Juniata played strong defense in the second half as they didn't allow W&J to take any shots while the Eagles took six. 

W&J held a 9-5 edge in corners, while Juniata held a 7-6 edge in shots. 

Washington & Jefferson had been one of three unbeaten teams in Division III. 

Juniata will host Scranton this Saturday at 5:30PM for senior day.
