Eagles Shutout Greyhounds in Conference Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team shutout Moravian, 4-0 as they opened conference play, Saturday afternoon.

Sarah Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) scored two goals for the Eagles, and Grace Kuszmaul (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) and Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) each tallied one. Lindsay Scholten (Holly Springs, N.C. / Brookfield) added an assist and Rebecca Waite (Landinberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) totaled two assists. 

The Eagles dominated from the start as they put in their first goal, two minutes into the game. After a corner put in by S. Alexander, Scholten passed it back to S. Alexander for an Eagle goal. Juniata kept the ball on their side of the field for the first half as they totaled eight shots while they held Moravian to zero. 

In the second half, Juniata scored three more goals to shutout Moravian. In the 42nd minute, Scholten took a shot, but it was saved by the Greyhound goalie, after a rebounded save and a pass from Waite, G. Alexander put it in the cage to extend the Eagles lead, 2-0. In the 58th minute, Kuszmaul scored after a penalty stroke. About five minutes later, Waite assisted S. Alexander for the Eagles final goal to defeat Moravian, 4-0. 

Juniata out shot Moravian, 23-3 and held an edge on corners, 17-0. 

Juniata returns to action at home on September 26th as they face Frostburg State at 7:00PM.
