Waite Helps Eagles Push Past Dutchmen in Overtime

HUNTINGDON, Pa- The Juniata field hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley, 3-2 in overtime on a hot Wednesday evening.

Grace Kuszmaul (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) totaled one goal while Rebecca Waite (Landinberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) tallied two goals for the Eagles. Sarah Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg), Olivia Marker (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS), and Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) each recorded an assist. 

In the first five minutes, Lebanon Valley scored the first goal of the game. About a minute later, Juniata answered back after Kuszmaul scored after a penalty stroke. At halftime, the score was tied at 1-1. 

In the 50th minute, the Dutchmen got the first goal of the second half. Four minutes later after a missed shot and then a save by the Dutchmen goalie, Marker and S. Alexander assisted Waite on the goal. With the score tied at 2-2, the teams were forced into overtime. 

Two minutes into overtime, G. Alexander assisted Waite for the winning goal. 

Juniata out shot Lebanon Valley, 26-10 and they also held an edge in corners, 6-4. 

The Eagles will travel to The College of New Jersey Saturday, September 8th for a 6:00PM game.
