Eagles Drop 2-0 Decision to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Juniata College field hockey team traveled to Catholic for a Saturday afternoon conference matchup, falling 2-0 at Cardinal Stadium.

Juniata goalie Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa. / Danville) kept Catholic off the scoreboard to start the first half, coming up with her four saves in the first twenty minutes of the game. The Cardinals obtained a penalty corner in the twenty-first minute and were able to get a shot off the play, ultimately finding the back of the cage to lead 1-0. The remainder of the first half was a battle of tough defense.

Sarah Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) had the first shot on goal for the Eagles in the second half, but Catholic turn it away. In the 61st minute, the Cardinals were granted a penalty corner. Again, the Cardinals were able to score off the corner to go up 2-0. S. Alexander was able to get another shot on goal five minutes later, but was unsuccessful in moving the ball past a strong Catholic defense.

The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 9-4 and held a 12-8 advantage in penalty corners.

The Eagles will return home to face conference opponent Drew on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 5:30pm.
