Juniata Wins Via Last Second Penalty Corner to Down Gophers

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata College field hockey team beat Goucher College, 1-0 in their first conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.

Lindsay Scholten (Apex, N.C./ Brookfield) tallied the lone goal on an end of the game penalty corner for the Eagles. Katie Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa./ Mifflinburg) took the penalty,  passed it to Meredith Shephard (Cazenovia, N.Y./ Cazenovia) who redirected it to Scholten who smacked it home for the win.

Juniata was given a penalty corner with 24 seconds left, but Goucher managed negate the danger. In the dying moments of the game, Juniata was awarded another penalty corner, and as K. Alexander walked over to take it, the clock hit zero. On the final play, she sent the ball to the top of the arc to Shepard. She stopped the ball and passed it to Scholton on her left who took a touch before blasting through traffic and into the cage to give Juniata the win.

Juniata totaled eight shots while Goucher had five. Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) totaled four saves and the Goucher keeper made two stops. The Eagles held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners. 

The Eagles head to Frostburg State on Wednesday, September 27th at 4:00.
