#6 TCNJ Hands Eagles First Loss of the Season

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College field hockey team was beaten by #6 The College of New Jersey, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.

Meredith Shephard (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) scored the lone goal for the Eagles, while Megan Martin (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) assisted on the play.

It was a fast and furious start to the game, as TNCJ scored two goals to race out to an early lead in the first three minutes. A minute later Juniata drew a penalty corner, Martin found Shepard alone at the top of the arc, and she fired it through traffic and past the keeper to make it 2-1. The next 15 minutes were a battle in the midfield for the most part, as the Juniata defense held the Lions to two shots. The Lions netted on more goal before the halftime buzzer, as Juniata trailed 3-1.

TCNJ scored in the 48th minute and the 69th minute to complete the 5-1 score line.

The Eagles will play at Messiah, Wednesday at 6:00.
